Visiting Assistant Professor Position in Astronomy
The Astronomy Department at Indiana University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2025. We seek an individual with expertise in astronomy or astrophysics who is committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The candidate will teach two courses per semester; assigned courses will generally be at the general education level but could include courses at any level in our curriculum. For applicants considering academic positions focused on teaching at the undergraduate level, the position offers the opportunity to develop strong teaching skills in a collaborative environment and to gain experience mentoring undergraduate research. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. H1-B sponsorship is not available for this position.

Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred but not a requirement. The search is open to applicants from any area of astronomy or astrophysics. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research complements and enhances current department strengths, who are committed to effective classroom teaching, and who can contribute to a collegial, welcoming, and vibrant department. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate fully in the scholarly life of the department and will have access to all available research facilities including the WIYN 3.5-m Observatory and IU’s outstanding high-performance research computing facilities. We are a small, friendly department offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees in astronomy and astrophysics. The department includes about 20 graduate students and 55 undergraduate majors.
