Travel and Accommodations

Travel & Arrival

We encourage attendees to drive to Bloomington on the morning of October 27 in order to arrive by 11 am for check-in and lunch (see below for meal details). If staying at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) Biddle Hotel, attendees may drop their luggage off at the concierge/front desk area any time before hotel check-in at 4 pm. Conference check-in will be in the Georgian Room in the IMU, and regular and lightning talks will take place in the Whittenberger Auditorium, both located on the first floor (see full building map here). The Friday reception, evening keynote talk, and all coffee breaks will be held in the Georgian Room.

Parking

All attendees who have driven to GLEAM from out of town may park in the IMU Parking Lots free of charge (either the east or north lots).  Directions to and maps of these lots can be found here: https://imu.indiana.edu/maps-parking/index.html.  Please ask for a parking voucher when you check in at the GLEAM Registration Table at the Georgian Room (either Friday or Saturday morning).  There is also paid street parking available west of the Sample Gates on E 6th St., E 4th St., S. Indiana Avenue, etc. (~10 minute walk to the IMU).

Accommodations

We intend to cover the costs of hotel accommodations for all attendees. Attendees should request such accommodations in their Registration form; we will assign rooms at the IMU Biddle Hotel based on this form. Note that those who have received complimentary accommodations should plan to bring their photo IDs and a credit or debit card to swipe to cover any incidentals at check-in, which begins at 4 pm (though some rooms may be available earlier).

Any attendees who do not wish to receive complimentary accommodations are still encouraged to book their rooms at the IMU hotel for convenience but may book any hotel of their choosing (other hotels within a ~15-minute walk include The Graduate Hotel and the Grant Street Inn).

Meals

On Friday, October 27, we will be providing free boxed lunch for attendees arriving from 11:00 am-12:00 pm, which will include 3 sandwich options. There will be two coffee breaks in the Georgian Room mixed into the talk schedules on both Friday and Saturday which will each feature light refreshments and snacks. Additional refreshments will be available during the reception on Friday from 4:30-5:30 pm, also in the Georgian Room. We will split up into small-to-medium-sized groups for dinner on Friday night in order to explore a variety of food options in town, which will all be within a ~15-minute walk from the IMU (restaurant options are highlighted here: https://www.visitbloomington.com/restaurants/). Continental breakfast will be provided in the IMU on Saturday morning before the program begins.
