Recent undergraduate projects

  • Using optical and radio observations of star-forming galaxies to estimate the Star Formation Rate Density of the universe over time
  • Applying machine learning techniques to identify rare types of stars from large, multi-color, photometric surveys 
  • Searching for Lithium-rich giant stars in star clusters to try to improve understanding of the origin of their Lithium-enrichment
  • Dynamical study of observed exoplanet systems hosting warm Jupiters
  • Simulating the hydrodynamics of protoplanetary disks and comparing to morphological structures observed by ALMA

  • Schedule a meeting with the Undergraduate Research Coordinator.
  • Ask the instructors in your astronomy classes for suggestions on how to get started.
  • Attend the department’s Tea Talk Seminars and Colloquia to learn about ongoing research and to connect with faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.
  • Apply to be part of the Alice Palma Summer Research Program for Undergraduates
