Congratulations to graduate student Brooke Kimsey-Miller, who is receiving a McCormick Science Grant from the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University. The award provides support while she carries out research with Professor John Salzer. Brooke is part the Star Formation Across Cosmic Time (SFACT) collaboration, a deep, large, narrow-band survey using the WIYN 3.5m to explore emission-line galaxies in order to understand galaxy evolution and formation with a focus on chemical enrichment.
Charles O. McCormick III, M.D., established the McCormick Science Grant Fund to honor his father and grandfather and to support basic science research. In creating the fund Dr. McCormick asked the College to identify the graduate student member of a faculty/graduate student team whose research is judged most creative, visionary, and innovative. With this award, the College expresses the confidence of the Department of Astronomy in Brooke’s promise as a developing scholar. Previous awardees include Samantha Brunker (2018) and Zachary Maas (2017).
