Tatiana Sandford Attends the “Galaxy Memoirs” Conference in Brazil.
IU Astronomy PhD student Tatiana Sandford participated in the Galaxy Memoirs conference, which took place in Armação dos Búzios, Brazil, in August 2025. The conference centered around the topic of galaxy evolution and was organized to honor the careers of two prominent astrophysicists who work in this area, Prof. Michael Merrifield and Prof. Alfonso Aragón-Salamanca.
Tatiana presented her research in a poster entitled “Scaling Relations for Globular Clusters in Giant Galaxies;" her project with IU faculty advisor Katherine Rhode applies Bayesian statistical analysis to rigorously quantify the correlations between globular star cluster populations and their parent galaxies. This photo from the conference shows Tatiana (front row, left) accompanied by one of the conference organizers, Professor Ana Chies-Santos (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil) (back row, right), along with other participants who carry out research on globular clusters.
We are grateful to the American Astronomical Society and a donor to IU Astronomy whose generous support enabled Tatiana to attend the conference to present her research and meet with collaborators.
