In an engaging showcase of interdisciplinary collaboration, Professor Songhu Wang from the Astronomy Department, Megan Young, Lecturer and Digital Art Area Head at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, and Ji Yeon Kim, Associate Professor of Music in Guitar at the Jacobs School of Music, have merged their expertise to create a distinctive experience that blends music, digital art, and astrophysics.
This collaborative effort culminated in a captivating event on December 13 at the Eskenazi Museum of Art, where Professor Wang delivered an enlightening lecture on "General Relativity, Curved Space, and Total Eclipses," which set the stage for a dynamic canvas where Megan Young and her Interactive Multimedia Course students, alongside Jiji Kim and her students from the Media Performance course, performed in unison, integrating art and music with the scientific concepts presented.
This unique performance, which paired the responsive visuals with the musical compositions, garnered significant public interest, and is also available for the public to view online at Vimeo. https://vimeo.com/894671515
The successful reception of this event has opened discussions about extending this interdisciplinary approach to the Science Fest, with the aim of further engaging the public in the seamless integration of the arts and sciences.
